Topic: Update on ORU Athletics
ORU's athletes enjoyed some great successes and endured some disappointments during the 2009-10 season. Come and hear what all of us fans can look forward to in 2010-11!
Mike Carter has been the Director of Athletics at Oral Roberts University since 1994 after practicing business and sports law in Tulsa for 21 years. He was the chair of the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee in 2002 and 2003 and continues to serve as a consultant and volunteer. He was the chair of the Summit League Joint Council of athletic directors and senior women's administrators and served on the Conference's Executive Committee after having chaired the Championships, Men's Basketball and Baseball Committees. He is on the Executive Committee of the NCAA Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association and is chair of the Awards Committee.
Mike serves as a member of the National Childhood Cancer Foundation Board of Trustees, Tulsa Sports Commission Executive Committee, and Southern Hills Country Club Board of Governors. He and his wife, Paula, are the Trustees of the Scott Carter Foundation, which raises funds for children's cancer research. Mike is a past director of Leadership Tulsa, Operation Aware, the Oklahoma Golf Association, Theater Tulsa, NABC Coaches vs. Cancer Board of Advisors, and served on the Mayor's Vision 2025 Recreation and Leisure Committee.
After receiving his B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University in 1970, Mike obtained a J.D. degree from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1972. He and Paula have been married 39 years and are members of First United Methodist Church where Mike is on its Executive Committee. They have two grown children, Lizz and Cason, and the late Scott who died in 1993.
